PATNA: Bihar's ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will give not more than 25 seats to the Congress in the forthcoming assembly elections. In the last assembly elections Congress contested against the RJD, but is sharing power in the RJD-led government in the state since 2000.

The Congress joined hands with the RJD for the April-May parliamentary elections and contested four Lok Sabha seats and won three. In the 1999 parliamentary elections too, the Congress teamed up with the RJD.

The RJD is eyeing its first ever alliance with the Congress for assembly elections in the state. Sources close to 1 Anne Marg, the official residence of Rabri Devi here, said Lalu Prasad would try to convince Sonia Gandhi to enter into an alliance with his party to defeat the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party-led combination.
