Kerala Chief Minister A K Antony on Sunday announced his resignation after a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Antony said he quit because of the drubbing that the Congress received in the state in the Lok Sabha election.

He said the Congress chief had approved his resignation. He made the announcement after Gandhi left for Delhi after her brief visit to the state. This is the second time that Antony is resigning from the post. In the late 1970s, he had quit following differences with the central leadership.
