The Congress in Rajasthan is starting a 'BJP bhagao' agitation from August 9, coinciding with the 'Quit India' movement day.

The decision to launch the agitation was taken at a meeting of the presidents and other office-bearers of the district Congress committees, which was also attended by senior party leaders along with PCC president PC Joshi.

Joshi told The Pioneer that the aim of the agitation was to highlight the "misdeeds of BJP the Government" during its rule of four-and-a-half years.

The district units of the party have been asked to stage dharnas and organise rallies at the district headquarters. Senior leaders of the party would participate in these dharnas at certain places.

According to party sources, the whole idea behind this programme is to activate the party cadre before the Assembly election, which is due by the end of November.

State level party functionaries have been asked to tour various parts of the State to mobilise support for these dharnas and rallies.

Earlier in the week, Mukul Vasnik, AICC general secretary and in charge of Rajasthan toured the State for three days. He addressed meetings of party workers, during his tour, to impress upon them that instead of indulging in factional fights, they should work untidily to give a fight to the BJP, whose graph as ruling party in the State, was at its lowest.
