Over 1.20 crore voters will decide the fate of 210 candidates, including 14 women, who are in the fray for the ten Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Prominent among those trying their electoral luck this time are Union Ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Kumari Selja, former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, former Union Minister I D Swami, Deepender Hooda, son of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Ajay Singh Chautala, son of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, Shruti chaudhry, grand-daughter of former Chief Minister Bansi Lal, former cricketer Chetan Sharma and Indian Youth Congress president Ashok Tanwar.

As many as 12,894 polling stations have been set up in the state, with 1925 of them identified as sensitive and 1283 as highly sensitive.

To conduct free and fair polls, 62,252 police personnel, including 43 companies of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and Central Security Forces, have been deployed.

Altogether 64,470 government officers and officials, including 16,118 Presiding Officers, 62,870 Polling Officers, 4032 Micro-Observers, 2015 Supervisors and 30 Central Observers have been also be deputed for smooth conduct of polling.

The Lok Sabha polls in Haryana are being considered a battle of supremacy between Congress Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala. During the high voltage campaign in the run-up to the elections, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani, NDA's star campaigner and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi addressed rallies in the state.

While the ruling Congress in Haryana mainly focussed on the developmental agenda of the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government, the opposition INLD and its NDA ally BJP raised issues like power crisis, corruption, rising prices and terrorism.

The Congress had won nine seats in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections which the INLD and the BJP had contested separately. While the BJP could secure only one seat, the INLD drew a blank even as Chautala was the Chief Minister at that time.

While the Congress is making all out efforts, party infighting notwithstanding, to retain its tally, the BJP-INLD combine is leaving no stone unturned in a hope to repeat its 1999 performance when the two parties contested the Lok sabha polls in alliance and won all the ten seats.

The elections will also decide the political future of former chief minister Bhajan Lal and his son Kuldeep Bishnoi who had floated the Haryana Janhit Congress after being sidelined in the Congress.

While the ruling Congress is contesting all the ten seats, the INLD and the BJP, which have entered into a pre-poll alliance, have fielded their candidates in five seats each.

The Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) of Bhajan Lal has also fielded its candidates in all the ten seats this time around.

Similarly, the BSP is also contesting for all the seats in the state.

Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja of the Congress is pitted against former BJP president Rattan Lal Kataria (BJP) in Ambala (SC) constituency. Selja, who had defeated Kataria from Ambala in 2004 Lok Sabha polls with a massive margin, will have to overcome the anti-incumbency factor to retain the seat.

In Hisar, Bhajan Lal of HJC (BL) is trying his luck against Jai Prakash of the Congress and Sampat Singh of INLD. For Bhajan Lal, the outcome of the contest would be very crucial as it is a first major test of his new political party.

Rajya Sabha member Ajay Singh Chautala, son of INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala, will take on Shruti, daughter of Haryana Forests and Environment Minister Kiran Chaudhry and grand-daughter of former Chief Minister Bansi Lal in Bhiwani-Mahendergarh constituency.

In the newly-carved constituency of Gurgaon, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh is pitted against Zakir Hussain (BSP), son of Meo Muslim leader Tayyab Hussain, and Sudha Yadav of the BJP. Rao Inderjit Singh is the sitting MP from Mahendergarh seat which has now been merged in Bhiwani constituency.

In Rohtak constituency, sitting MP Deepender Hooda, son of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is seeking re-election. He is pitted against Nafe Singh Rathi of INLD and Krishan Murti of HJC (BL).

In Kurukshetra, sitting MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal (Cong) has locked horns with INLD state president Ashok Kumar Arora. Jindal had hit the headlines by hoisting the biggest ever tricolour in the country last month.

In Karnal, former Union Minister I D Swami of BJP will take on Arvind Kumar Sharma of the Congress. Sharma had defeated Swami in the 2004 elections with a big margin.

In Sirsa (SC) constituency, Indian Youth Congress president Ashok Tanwar is trying his luck against Dr Sita Ram of INLD. Tanwar has to contend with the label of an ''outsider'' against Dr Sita Ram who is an MLA from Dabwali segment of the same constituency.

In Faridabad, the BSP has fielded former cricketer Chetan Sharma against Avtar Singh Bhadana of the Congress and Ram Chander Bainda of BJP.
In Sonepat, the main contestants are Jitender Singh Malik of the Congress and Kishan Singh Sangwan of BJP. Sangwan, who is the sitting MP from Sonepat, was the only candidate of the BJP to have emerged victorious in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.
