64 Percent Voters Cast Vote In Haryana

Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda has thanked the people for exercising their right to vote in a large number and also for the smooth and peaceful polling as about 64 per cent voters cast their vote for 10 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State onm Thursday. A total of 210 candidates including 14 women are in fray in Haryana.

In a statement issued here, Hooda said that despite prevailing hot weather, the voters came out of their homes in a large number and enthusiastically cast their vote to elect their favourite candidates.

The polling was smooth and peaceful in the State.The polling commenced at 7 a.m. and long queus were seen at several polling booths even after 5 p.m.

According to preliminary reports of percentage of polling in various Parliamentary constituencies in the State, Kurukshetra ranked at the top with 71 per cent polling followed by Sirsa which recorded 67 per cent polling. Similarly, polling in Karnal was 65 per cent, Sonepat 63.17 per cent, Ambala 65 per cent, Faridabad 55 per cent, Gurgaon 60 per cent, Rohtak 66.44 per cent, Hisar 64 per cent and Bhiwani-Mahendergard recorded 65 per cent polling.

During the last General Elections held in 2004, as many as 65.69 per cent voters had exercised their right to vote. Parliamentary constituency of Kurukshetra had recorded the highest turn out of 72.23 per cent and lowest in the same year was recorded at Faridabad where merely 54.62 per cent voters were polled.

For General Elections, Haryana has witnessed a maximum of 73.26 per cent polling in 1977. Polling was lowest at 63.68 per cent in the General Elections of 1999.
