Congress gave its first indication on Sunday that it had no intention of a rapprochement with RJD or Lok Janshakti Party in Bihar as it declared a list of seven candidates for the forthcoming by-elections in the State.
The move comes close on the heels of RJD chief Lalu Prasad's meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The meeting was seen as a desperate move by the RJD chief to rebuild ties with Congress, which he and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan had snubbed bitterly before the Lok Sabha elections.
On Sunday, the party declared the list of seven candidates for the by-polls. Accordingly, Pheku Ram will contest from Bochaha Assembly seat in Muzaffarpur and Noor Alam from Aurai seat in the same district, according to an official release issued by party's Central Election Committee in-charge Oscar Fernandes.
The other candidates are Mukund Kumar from Kalyanpur, Anita Ram from Warisnagar, Parshuram Tiwari from Ramgarh in Kaimur, Shah Nawaj Khan from Chainpur (Kaimur) and Murari Prasad Gautam from Chenari in Rohtas. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the Congress contested the polls alone and won two of the 40 seats in the State.
